My 2 cats took right to this. It’s better than leaving a bowl out which you have to refill constantly. This holds a good amount of water and to refill you just pour some water right into it. The top of the fountain is an adjustable nozzle that controls the flow of the water streams and therefore any sound that they make too. In the instruction manual it says you should clean it once/week including the motor too. I think I’d rather just buy a new one in 6 months – 1 yr than spend all the time cleaning it. Time = money and I’d spend many more hrs having to clean it!
Added Oct, 2009:
Now that I’ve had it for awhile I’ve actually taken to cleaning it regularly. It’s actually very easy to take apart and doesn’t take long to clean at all.
Another thing…the flow tends to slow down fairly quickly which I thought initially was due to the filters getting clogged up. But it’s actually due to cat hair getting into the water pump intake, so you have to pull the pump out (it’s suctioned to the bottom the bowl) and clean the hair out. It takes 2 secs to clean the hair, but it was just a matter of figuring what was slowing the flow. My cat’s are black and the pump is black so I couldn’t tell at first that it was being clogged b/c the hair blended right in with it. White hair would have been much easier to see. Once that hair is cleaned out, the flow improves dramatically

The water just sort of flows down the side of the fountain instead of coming out like the picture looks. I even cleaned it and it still does it.

Mine arrived broken with some plastic pieces broken off, so it did not work properly. Otherwise it might have worked fine.

Ordered it and took one look at the fountain. This fountain will be a growler to maintain because it’s a mine for bacteria and you will be hooked on the mfg expensive filters, so we returned it. A smart design would be one you could hook up to an external motor, take apart and put in the diswasher on a regular basis AND have filters that you can clean yourself. The design also needs to eradicate the build-up of slime.

The current Drinkwell 360 is made from polystyrene, which maybe a concern for some but there is a stainless steel model coming in 2010.
Thank you for your interest in the Drinkwell 360.
Our products are made by a company in China called Resun Plastics and Trading. Their primary product that they produce is fish pumps. They have been in business for over 18 years, and during that time they have never once had to recall any of their products, nor have they had any issues with any of their items being harmful or potentially dangerous. The plastic Resun uses for our products comes from America. The plastic they use is a highly durable Polystyrene plastic, which is non-porous and non-leaching.
We will also be unveiling a new model for the 360 early 2010, which will have a stainless steel bowl. We are very excited for this new product.
*Looks like they’re a little ahead of schedule. The stainless steel version is already for sale at Petsmart.
